OUR HISTORY
In
the early fifties, Mir Imam Bakhsh Zehri discovered
Onyx in the desert of Chagai district in Balochistan,
which is the biggest province in Pakistan.
Onyx in Pakistan is only in this area. In the early
fifties, the village people used to bring different
precious stones to those people who could afford to
buy them. Once they got a sample of Onyx, Mir Imam Bakhsh
Zehri got interested in this beautifull stone and went
to this location to discover its origin. There he saw
few deposits, so he took some for sampling. He had made
his own cutter machine at home, and he has seen different
colors running through it. Straight away he discussed
the matter with his elder brother Mir Qadir Bakhsh Zehri
and his younger brother Mir Nabi Bakhsh Zehri.Because
his two brothers were these days involved in politics
and he was taking care of the family business (as they
had coal mines running), they had the capital to work
on their new discovery, so the work of mining was taken
care of Mir Imam Bakhsh. He did the first export as
a sample to Italy, and the second export to unseat that
time the stock was not more than 25 tons. His younger
brother went to Italy to take care of the export, and
so from Italy our family got the name "Kings of
Onyx". Later on, they imported machinery for the
factory from Italy, and had a huge yard with millions
of tons of onyx as stock in Italy. Today, Onyx is being
taken care by the new generations. Mir Mehmood Zehri
is the second generation. He took business to a high
level with all the high tech machinery and mining. Today
he is professional in recognizing the grade "A"
quality blocks. Machinery that he is using today was
also imported from Italy so that the level of Onyx exploration
and production is still very high. Now, Zehri family
is the only Onyx mine owners in Pakistan.
Mr. Mukarram Zehri is the third generation of this family;
they worked hard to be the primary exporters of the
Zehri group in different finished onyx like tiles, slabs,
mosaics, cut to size, and different handicrafts.
